  　Employees can get nicotine fix without leaving the office, Arizona official says

　　Electronic cigarettes could help increase productivity for businesses. Cigarette smokers have to leave workplaces to get a smoke fix, but the electronic versions enable people to puff on water vapor to get their nicotine even in the office. That would be legal, said a program specialist for Smoke-Free Arizona.

　　“Since they don’t contain tobacco,” Krystal Colburn told the Phoenix Business Journal, “they don’t fall underneath the jurisdiction of our law.”

　　One of the biggest known issues for smokers working in a smoke-free environment is obviously the inability to go out regularly to get that much needed nicotine fix, but e-cigarettes are seen are a much better alternative.

　　When smokers have to go outside work to light up, it’s “lost productivity for the employer, and it’s pretty inconvenient for the employee,” according to Craig Weiss, president and CEO of e-cigarette manufacturer NJoy.

　　Smoke-Free Arizona’s Colburn said she has not gotten any complaints about electronic cigarettes at the office. It’s hard to notice when someone is using an e-cigarette, say makers of the gadgets. That is probably one of the best features of this alternative smoking method, since it allows people to get the hit without affecting the breathing of people around them.

　　Law is also on the side of e-cigarettes as they are not formally bound by any piece of legislature and can be used easily in a majority of indoor places, unless they specifically have made rules regarding the use of electronic cigarettes.

　　E-cigarette-maker Logic’s founder, Howard Panes, calls his product a smart alternative. “It’s not burning tobacco. No carbon monoxide, no tar,” Panes said.

　　In 2010, 19.3% of adults in America smoked habitually, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates.

　　Now, more workplaces can expect their employees to continue working while keeping their craving for nicotine at bay without endangering the lives of colleagues with harmful tobacco smoke.
